The LBD Project Part #4: The Final Polish (Closures, Silhouette & Hemming)

You have successfully transferred your precision adjustments and constructed your dress in its final fabric. This final fitting session is dedicated to the details that elevate a garment from ‘handmade’ to ‘haute couture.’ We will focus on working through any final fit issues, ensure the lining creates a seamless, professional finish and perfecting the hemline.
What We’ll Accomplish:
- Closure Inspection: Verify the flawless installation and function of all garment closures (zippers, hooks, snaps), ensuring they are integrated seamlessly and discreetly.
- Lining Harmony: Assess the lining’s fit, confirming it lies smoothly without pulling, bunching, or compromising the final silhouette.
- The Perfect Hem: We will mark and pin the final hemline, taking into account shoes and desired drape for a professional, balanced finish.
- Dress Rehearsal: Perform a final review of the completed LBD in motion, noting any last-minute tweaks needed before the final stitch.
What to Bring:
- Your Garment: Your LBD constructed in the fashion fabric, with all closures basted or temporarily installed and the lining attached but not yet hemmed.
- Essential Kit: Needles/thread matching your fabric, small sharp scissors, a flexible ruler, and tailor’s chalk or basting thread for final marking.
- The Right Undergarments & Shoes: Essential for accurately assessing the hemline and overall drape.
Note: This is a collaborative environment. Be prepared to assist your fellow designers with pinning and measurements!
