Welcome to the Colorado Chapter of the ASDP.

Both the Association of Sewing and Design Professionals (ASDP) and its Colorado Chapter were established in 1991.  There are currently over 200 members across the U.S. and 6 local chapters.

We are a non-profit organization comprised of professionals who work in sewing and design related businesses. Our mission is to provide that Professional Touch. Custom fit is our specialty and we want to make you look your best! Bring your creative ideas and let us help make your dream a reality.

Sewing and Design are our Specialties

We specialize in custom sewing and alterations for special occasion wear, and everyday needs. We are all about problem solving and how things go together. We can plan and execute a complex project. We enjoy figuring out how a fabric is made and how it will work for a specific application, where patterns and pattern manipulation become second nature. We love helping clients solve fitting problems and finding a look that works with their shapes and style. Our favorite part of this business is finding a solution that gives the client a sigh of relief, a screech of delight or even tears of joy.

History of the Colorado ASDP Chapter

Our Colorado-based group of sewing professionals began in 1990 and has had three name changes as we merged with other groups and grew in scope and interests.

A blue and white logo with the letters C C P in the upper left over a grid of lines. The words Custom Clothing Professionals of Colorado Inc. are written on the lower right.

In 1990 we were known as the Custom Clothing Professionals (CCP) of Colorado, Inc. We had one of our first announced meetings starting in July 1991. Many of our original members have been in the group since its beginning over twenty-five years ago (see photo below).

In January 1992 we combined our Colorado group with a similar group from Portland, OR. Together we changed our group names to form a single group known as the Professional Association of Custom Clothiers (PACC). In addition to local meetings, two years later (in 1994) we held our first national conference.

After twelve years as PACC, the group membership had expanded to include a broader range of sewing and design interests. A new name was chosen and in 2004, PACC changed its name to Association of Sewing and Design Professionals (ASDP). We have continued as the Colorado Chapter of ASDP to present.

A mostly black and white logo with a pair of sewing needles above and below. The letters A S D P are on the left and the words Association of Sewing and Design Professionals is on the right. The word Colorado in purple is written under the letters A S D P.

In 2019, ASDP decided to update its logo to reflect a global membership. The logo changed to two sewing needles with the “Global” indication under ASDP. To keep our logos similar, we updated our chapter logo, replacing “global” in the national logo with the word “Colorado”.

Member Meetings

We meet once or twice a month. Our meetings are both educational and business oriented. We help and encourage each other to achieve higher standards.

We have different speakers who are experts on a variety of topics relating to sewing from business tips to sewing techniques. We also take field trips to local places of interest related to sewing.

Bringing professionals together for ideas, information and inspiration is a major part of our mission. Custom fit and construction are our specialties, and we want to make you or your clients look superb.

Non-members can come to our meetings for $10.00-$25.00 each, depending on the meeting.

Come to our meetings and we will welcome you as a visitor and as a potential member.

National Online Discussion Group

Another benefit of being a member of a national sewing organization is the online discussion group. Members from across the country discuss problems such as: clients and how to deal with them, specific fabric resources, business tips, techniques for specific garments whether it be bustling a bridal gown or altering a tailored jacket. If you have a question you can ask the group and receive an answer almost immediately

Member Work Quality Jurying

Our chapter is one of a very few in our association that allows members to have their work certified by the jury process.

As professionals, our work should reflect the standards of a professional sewing organization. Members can be juried in many different categories from alterations to tailoring. Certificates are given for each category that you pass.

Since formal educational programs for our profession are limited in the U.S., the jurying program is one way in which you can document your proficiency and expertise. It is also a useful advertising tool that you can show your clients. Being juried will challenge your abilities and will encourage you to take your skills to the next level.

Many members of the ASDP Colorado chapter have been juried by their peers within the frame work of the Standards of Quality for Custom Clothing established by the National Assoc. of Sewing and Design Professionals.

Holding all of our work to this standard of quality ensures that our members continue to improve in all areas of expertise. This is one way in which we uphold high and consistent standards in the field of sewing and design.
